After much discussion, the Williamstown Township Board has decided to discontinue the regular monthly recycling. There are a couple reasons for this decision. First, by our count, approximately 120 households take advantage of the Township’s monthly recycling. The Board believes that the money spent on monthly recycling, approximately $6500 annually, could be used in other ways that would benefit more residents. Secondly, Granger now offers curbside recycling to 95% of the Township. The only area they don’t serve at this time is the far northeast corner of the Township. Granger is in the process of looking to add that area. The Board believes that the reason monthly recycling has decreased so much from prior years, is that more households are using the curbside recycling option.
If you still would like to take your recycling to a recycling station, Reclaimed by Design in Haslett and MSU Recycling in East Lansing are both great options. Check out their websites. They are open more hours and have more recycling options than the Township was able to provide.
The last monthly recycling day at the Township Hall will be December 13, 2025. Williamstown Township will still continue to offer special recycling events such as e-waste, metal, and bulk trash. The dates will be posted on our website and in future newsletters. The Township Board is still committed to doing helpful things to save the earth.
Note: At the time of this writing, WM (Waste Management) has not responded to emails or phone calls about what recycling services they offer to Township households.
